2001 Stakes Schedule Approved

STICKNEY, IL -- Today the Illinois Racing Board approved Hawthorne's stakes schedule for the upcoming 2001 meet. The split meet will incorporate graded stakes events in both the spring and fall sessions, with the Hawthorne Derby and Gold Cup featured in the spring and the Robert F. Carey Memorial in the fall. In addition to those three graded events, twelve additional stakes will be run, along with the inclusion of overnight stakes throughout the racing season.

In 2001, Hawthorne Race Course runs from May 1 - June 10 and October 31 - December 31. In addition to running on closing day, December 31, which would be a normal dark day, Hawthorne will also race on Wednesday June 6, a six day racing week to close out the spring season. Daily post time will be 1:10 PM.
