Hawthorne to Host Snocross Event this Weekend; Bears Running Back Slated to Compete
STICKNEY, IL -- Fast-paced action will be returning to Hawthorne this weekend, but not in the fashion normally accustomed to this facility. As Thoroughbreds dominate the scene much of the year, it will be snowmobiles that will be racing at Hawthorne this weekend.
Starting on Friday, January 19, the World Snowmobile Association will begin the festivities for the inaugural running of the Windy City Snocross. The WSA is recognized throughout the nation as one of the top snowmobile tours and just last weekend the WSA hosted one of their most successful events at Canterbury Downs in Minnesota. This weekend's event is round five in the Snocross Worldwide Championship.
Also slated to appear and race in the semi-pro division is Chicago Bears running back Curtis Enis. Enis, a number 1 pick by the Bears in 1998 will be racing in the semi-pro events during the weekend. On Friday, drivers in both the pro and semi-pro divisions will be available to the media for interviews from 2-3 PM.
On Saturday, racing begins at 10:00 AM with Pro Stock qualifying starting at noon. At 3:00 PM will be the running of the Pro Open Invitational. Racing begins again on Sunday at 10:00 AM and the Pro Stock Final will be run at 10:30 AM. Pro Open qualifying will follow and the Pro Open final will be run at 3:00 PM. On Saturday and Sunday, gates will open at 9:00 AM.
Tickets for the event are available for $18 per day with children 10 and under free. Tickets into the pits will also be available on-site at Hawthorne. For more information, contact the Group Sales office at Hawthorne at 708-780-7050.
