Hawthorne to Open Fall Season With A Bang
STICKNEY, IL -- Coming off an extremely strong spring meeting, Hawthorne Race Course will keep things rolling as the fall season opens on Wednesday, October 31. Many of the innovative ideas that were presented to racing fans in the spring, will return once again this fall.
Fans were rewarded during the spring with what they want most, more money, as management at Hawthorne lowered the takeout on all wagers. Once again this fall, takeout on all wagers will be lowered by 2%.
Fans also responded very well to the popular and innovative Guaranteed Pick 6 wager. The Pick 6 returns for the fall meeting as the $2 minimum wager will begin with a $50,000 guarantee.
Also, many of the fan-friendly innovations within the facility will return as well. On opening day, as well as every Friday, Hawthorne's "Dollar Days" will take place as there will be dollar specials on food and beverage as well as wagers. The well-received Club Hawthorne will also be available every live racing day as fans will have an opportunity to win prizes without having to pay for the opportunity. Club Hawthorne can be signed up for on the first floor of the grandstand by the crossover bar.
Racing results also return to the air as the popular "Hawthorne Racing Report" will show every day's racing program on WJYS channel 62 and 34. The report will air at 6:30 PM Wednesday through Saturday and at 9:30 PM on Sunday's. The report will be hosted by Jim Miller with commentary from Nancy Ury and Peter Galassi.
Also returning this fall is the "Voice of Chicago Racing," Phil Georgeff as the Fantasy Races of Champions series will continue. To be shown every Sunday, these fantasy races offer fans an opportunity to win prizes by just having the right winning ticket in their hand that they receive from the gate when they arrive at the track.
Additional promotions will also be offered as Hawthorne will be giving away televisions and a 2001 Plymouth Voyager. Fans will have a chance to qualify for prizes every weekend of the fall meeting.
Hawthorne will once again offer two handicapping challenges with qualifying rounds taking place on November 3rd, 10th and 17th for a November 24th final and on December 1st, 8th and 15th for a December 22nd final. Prizes for the champions will include betting vouchers as well as dinners in Hawthorne's Gold Cup Room. Weekly winners will be presented with color televisions.
Hawthorne races Oct. 31 - Jan 1, first post 1:00 PM daily
