ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (October 8, 2001) -- Fred Kissling's Spanish Glitter earned her third stakes victory of the Arlington Park season when she captured the $54,500 Silver Maiden Stakes by three lengths Monday, as part of a special Columbus Day program at the suburban Chicago racetrack.

The daughter of Glitterman, who was ridden by Rene Douglas, had previously captured the $60,000 Meafara Stakes here in August and added the $50,000 Miss Oceana Stakes to her win ledger last month. The Bernie Flint-trained 3-year-old filly earned $32,700 for the Silver Maiden score to boost her bankroll to $291,540. Her record now stands at seven wins, five seconds and a third from 14 career starts.

"She did it again," said Douglas, who has been astride for all three of Spanish Glitter's local victories. "I just kept her behind the speed and she just exploded when I asked her. She's got a lot of heart."

Spanish Glitter sat third behind pacesetter Emily Ring for the first half-mile of the seven-furlong race. She took the lead inside the furlong marker and drew off for an easy tally, covering the distance in 1:23.08 over a track listed as fast.

Emily Ring was good enough to hold the second spot, two lengths clear of third-place finisher Shemya. Abba Gold, Good Humor, Timely Lover, Twill, Flows Like Wine and My White Corvette completed the order of finish.

Spanish Glitter, the 3-2 favorite, paid $5.00, $3.00 and $2.40. Emily Ring returned $7.40 and $4.00. Shemya paid $4.80.
