ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (October 7, 2001) -- Last after three-quarters of mile, Alan Drey's Bahroba made a five-wide turn entering the stretch and drew off to win the $53,250 Steinlen Stakes by a head Sunday at Arlington Park. Chris Emigh rode the homebred son of Bahri to victory, covering the mile and an eighth over yielding turf in 1:52.18.

The win, his fourth in 13 starts, was worth $31,950 and boosted Bahroba's bankroll into six-figures at $130,970.

"Dennis (trainer Ebert) told me, 'You'll probably be last, but when you hit the half-mile pole start picking it up,'" Emigh said. "I was surprised that it was that easy. He had his ears up and came home down the lane pretty easily."

Mystery Giver made a rally to finish second, a length and a half ahead of 2-1 favorite Slough Creek. Maggofin was next followed by Saturday in May and early pacesetter Horrible Evening.

Bahroba paid $7.80, $4.40 and $2.80. Mystery Giver returned $5.40 and $2.80. Slough Creek paid $2.40.
