FRANKLY MY DEAR WIRES MARIAH'S STORM HANDICAP

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (September 9, 2001) -- Frankly My Dear picked up her initial victory for 2001 with a front-stepping tally in the $45,000 Mariah's Storm Handicap Sunday at Arlington Park. Robby Albarado rode the 4-year-old Scarlet Ibis filly who covered the mile and an eighth over a sloppy racecourse in 1:52.53.

The win, her seventh in 18 lifetime starts, was worth $27,000 and boosted her bankroll to $350,547 for her owner, the Mt. Brilliant Stable of H. Greg Goodman.

"Mike (Stidham, the trainer) told me in the paddock that she gets over the slop pretty well," Albarado said. "She's so professional. She gets away (from the gate) cleaner than everybody, and that's an advantage for her because she can immediately relax. She was so kind on the backstretch and she pricked her ears right away. It was effortless for her."

Humble Clerk, a graded stakes winner as a 2-year-old, raced second throughout and closed to within a head of the winner in the final yards.

"Take nothing away from the filly that ran second," Albarado added. "I rode her at Churchill (June 21) in the slop and she drew off (and won by seven lengths)."

It was another 1 lengths back to 17-1 longshot Taste the Passion, followed by Lakenheath, Applesolutely, Adam's Time, Rodeo Fan and Lorraine.

Sent off as the 6-5 favorite, Frankly My Dear paid $4.40, $3.20 and $3.00. Humble Clerk, second choice in the race at odds of 3-1, returned $3.60 and $3.40. Taste the Passion paid $5.80.
