ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (Oct. 26, 2000) -- Twelve horses that raced at Arlington Park during the 2000 season are among a record 135 horses pre-entered for the 17th Breeders' Cup Championship. The eight race Breeders' Cup Championship, thoroughbred racing's richest day, will be held Sat., Nov. 4 at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky.

Arlington-raced runners have been pre-entered in seven of the eight races, with only the $2 million Distaff (G1) absent of local representation. The $2 million Breeders' Cup Turf (G1) and the $1 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) have the strongest contingent of Arlington starters pre-entered with three in each race.

Leading the trio of Arlington Turf pre-entrants is Columbine Stable's Manndar, runner-up following a troubled trip in the $2 million Arlington Million (G1) Aug. 19. He is cross-entered in the $1 million Breeders' Cup Mile (G1) but will likely contest the Turf. Also in the body of the race for the Turf is Jayeff "B" Stables' Ciro, hero of the $400,000 Secretariat Stakes (G1) on the same afternoon. On Target Racing Stables' Williams News, winner of the Stars and Stripes Breeders' Cup Turf (G3) July 4, is the first also eligible in the over subscribed race.

Brian Griggs & Mike Goetz' She's a Devil Due, a three-time Arlington winner topped by the Top Flight Stakes on Sept. 9; Bertram, Elaine & Richard Klein's Thunder Bertie, who captured the Arlington-Washington Lassie on Sept. 30; and Carl F. Pollard's Caressing, second to Thunder Bertie in the Lassie, will represent Arlington in the Juvenile Fillies.

Two Arlington stakes winners were pre-entered in the $4 million Breeders' Cup Classic (G1), North America's richest race. Sharon Hild's Dust On the Bottle, winner of the Buckpasser Stakes on the Arlington Million undercard, and George & Kay Hofmeister's Pine Dance, victor of the July 23 American Derby (G2), have made the body of the race.

The remaining pre-entered horses that started this summer at Arlington are: Centennial Farm's King Cugat, winner of the Arlington Classic (G2) July 1 and runner up in the Secretariat, pre-entered in the Mile; David P. Holloway Racing Inc.'s Bet On Sunshine, repeat champion of the Arlington Sprint Sept. 2, pre-enetered to the $1 million Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1); Aug. 19 Beverly D. (G1) heroine, Gary A. Tanaka's Snow Polina, pre-entered to the $1 million Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G1); and Liebau, Liebau and Volkman's Trailthefox, victor of the Arlington-Washington Futurity Sept. 23, pre-entered to the $1 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1).
