ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill (Oct. 25, 2000) - Entering 2001 with its new name of Arlington Park and following its stock merger with Churchill Downs Incorporated earlier this year, Illinois premier racetrack announced Wednesday the highlights of next year's race meet which will run from Wednesday, June 13 to Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001.

The 19th running of the Arlington Million, one of the world's premier turf races that was broadcast to more than 200 countries worldwide in 2000, is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001. As part of the Emirates World Series Racing Championship, the Million will be the feature race on International Festival of Racing Day at Arlington Park. The entire 2001 stakes schedule will be announced later this fall.

"The Arlington Million will highlight a great day of international racing at Arlington Park," said Arlington CEO Scott Mordell. "We look forward to building upon the great success of this year's Summer Festival of Racing, and next year's International Festival of Racing Day on Aug. 18 promises to be a memorable day for all of our fans."

The Second Annual Prairie State Festival is slated for Saturday, June 23, 2001. Created to celebrate and promote Illinois as a unique destination with a distinct heritage, the Illinois Department of Commerce and Community Affairs sponsored event hosted over 25 regional entertainment entities and Convention and Visitor's Bureaus from all over the Prairie State in 2000.

"This is a marquee day for the State of Illinois that highlights the state's special elements of tourism, agriculture, industry and the diversity of Illinois' population while providing a showcase for the best Illinois Thoroughbreds," stated Mordell. "In 2001, we are determined to make this an even bigger and more successful event."

In addition, the annual free Fourth of July community fireworks display will be presented at Arlington Park on Wednesday, July 4, 2001. Always an evening to remember, and fun for the entire family, the 2000 edition was the recipient of the Daily Herald's Readers' Choice Award for Best Fireworks.
