Georgian had three straight winners in Arlington's fifth through seventh races to earn the prize. Georgian was assigned, through a random drawing, the winner of Arlington's fifth race #8 Hassan's Hands ($10.00). He correctly selected the next two winners, #4 Apt to Be ($5.00) and #2 Sky Lady ($3.60) in races six and seven, respectively, to become the second contestant to win $10,000 in the NTRA Down the Stretch Sweepstakes at Arlington this year. Geraldine Jarol of Niles, Ill., an 80-year-old single grandmother, won $10,000 in the NTRA Down the Stretch Sweepstakes on July 29. Georgian's streak and attempt at $25,000 fell short when he tried to beat odds-on favorite and winner Spectacular Cat ($3.40) in the Spectacular Bid Stakes with #2 Freeway Ticket, who finished fourth. "I thought that Freeway Ticket was the best horse who just had a bad trip last time out," said Georgian. "I knew that I was in trouble when he went out too fast." The NTRA Down the Stretch Sweepstakes has a top prize of $1 million for any lucky fan who can win all six races in the contest. # # # |
