GUIDRY INJURED IN SATURDAY SPILL
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. --- Mark Guidry, leading jockey at Arlington International Racecourse with 119 victories, was taken to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights following an incident in the seventh race Saturday.
Guidry's mount, Lex a Million, broke down on the backstretch in the six-furlong race and threw the rider to the track at the half-mile pole. Track officials said Guidry was conscious and alert.
Ironically, Guidry was not scheduled to ride Saturday at Arlington. The 41-year-old native of Lafayette, La. was slated to guide Bella Chiarra in the Gardenia Stakes at Ellis Park in Kentucky. When that horse was scratched, Guidry scrapped the Kentucky trip and picked up several mounts on the Arlington program.
