"MAKE ROOM FOR ROB FUNDRAISERS" WALK, ROLL & RUN FOR ROB AT ARLINGTON PARK TRACKSIDE OTB ON SUNDAY, SEPT. 16

ARLINGTON HTS., Ill. (Sept. 15, 2001) -- The "Make Room For Rob Fundraisers" will hold a Walk, Roll & Run For Rob on September 16 at Arlington Park. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the "Make Room For Rob Trust" to benefit Rob Komosa, the Rolling Meadows High School football player who was paralyzed during football practice on October 6, 1999.

Sponsored by Arlington Park and Kevin Meehan of Raymond James Financial Services, Walk, Roll & Run is open to runners and walkers of all ages. Runners will lead off the run at 10 a.m. along a 5K route around Arlington Park, followed by walkers and "rollers" (those in wheel chairs) at 10:10 a.m., who will follow a 2K route. Check-in and same day registration begins at 9:00 a.m. Pre-registration fees are $20 for adults; $15 for those 18 and under; and $60 for a family. An additional $10 will be charged for same-day registration.

To date, the "Make Room For Rob Fundraisers" have raised and deposited $160,000. This figure does not include approximately $50,000 raised by the Polish National Alliance, which has not yet been deposited to the trust. The group hopes to reach its goal of raising $300,000 by October 6, 2001, which marks the second anniversary of Rob's accident.

The money that is raised will be used primarily to purchase, build or renovate a home for Rob, whose accident left him completely paralyzed from the chin down and on ventilator life support. Currently, Rob and his family live in a modest split-level house, whose layout confines Rob to the family's small living room, which has served as his makeshift bedroom since his injury. The room is crowded with Rob's hospital bed, nurse's station, supplies and equipment including his oversized wheelchair. The front door opens into this space, making it drafty during the winter and detrimental to Rob's health. Because the family bathroom is upstairs, Rob has been unable to shower for over a year and a half. The "Make Room For Rob Fundraisers" hope to improve the quality of Rob's life with a home that accommodates the equipment that is a necessity to Rob's everyday life and one that allows Rob to move freely from room to room.

Registration forms for Walk, Roll & Run are available at many area stores and restaurants that have supported the Make Room for Rob fundraising effort. For more information about Walk, Roll & Run, contact Bob and Mary Ann Galvanoni at 847-398-1723. Donations can be made payable to The Make Room For Rob Trust, Harris Bank Palatine, 50 N. Brockway, Palatine, IL 60067, ATT: Mark Schalke.
