STATEMENT FROM ARLINGTON PARK PRESIDENT STEVE SEXTON ON BREEDERS' CUP ANNOUNCEMENT ON MONDAY, SEPT. 10, 2001 "We're extremely pleased that that Breeders' Cup Limited has provisionally selected Arlington as a potential host for the World Thoroughbred Championships in 2002," said Arlington Park President Steve Sexton. "However, as stated in that announcement, the finalization of a contract to host the event is contingent upon a variety of issues including adequate state and community support. "We will continue to diligently pursue those necessary details in order to bring the World Thoroughbred Championships -- which has had a local economic impact between $50 and $100 million in other major markets in which it was held -- to Illinois," added Sexton. "There is still much to do before we would be in a position to host this event, but with the support of the local community, the city of Chicago and the State of Illinois, we are confident that Arlington Park could put on the best Breeders' Cup ever." - END - |
